In my recent blog on
why I am voting for Obama., I thought about who the great leaders of this world would be voting for if they could. I see Deepak Chopra as one of these great leaders. Interestingly, he recently posted
a blog entry that has some key parallels to my points. He talks about "how politics can mirror the national psyche even when no one intended for that." which is along the lines of the collective unconscious that I discussed. He talks about the shadow, which is in essence another way to talk about the human ego. Regarding Pailin: "She is the reverse of Barack Obama, in essence his shadow, deriding his
idealism and turning negativity into a cause for pride. In
psychological terms the shadow is that part of the psyche that hides
out of sight, countering our aspirations, virtue, and vision with
qualities we are ashamed to face: anger, fear, revenge, violence,
selfishness, and suspicion of “the other.”
