I am voting for hope. And compassion. And truth. And love. And humanity. And peace. And our planet. What about you? Some may see these as idealistic buzzwords and some might even say not real political issues. I say they are all of the issues that matters and this election may just be the most important election our planet has ever seen. I have 3 children, I'm 41 years old, and in all 41 years, I never felt like we had a chance to truly and realistically be headed on a coarse of full self destruction of the planet and race - and I do now. I'm scared. For real. Between the realities of Global Warming (see "An Inconvenient Truth"), Global Peak Oil Production (see "A Crude Awakening"), The Global Food Crisis, A Flu Pandemic, or the anger of the hundreds of thousands of people who innocently have lost family in Bush's quest to keep the Oil companies of America reaping insane profits for a few more years to come through his personal war in Iraq - we are facing the scariest times I've known in my life.
Never in my life did I consider the thought that my children could face
such a dire world situation ahead.
But there is good news. We have a chance to elect a leader truly focused on humanity and helping one another. Someone who can inspire us as people to make good choices and drive the fixing of this world ourselves. In all of my life, I've never had a political leader be a true inspiration and someone for whom I deeply admire. I am greatly inspired by Barack Obama. He is the first presidential candidate I've seen in my lifetime that feels like there is a real moral compass guiding his way. Barack Obama cannot wave a wand and pull us through all of this - I'm not saying a vote for one man will make it all better - but he can be a catalyst to inspire. Inspire us as a global level. This is not an election encapsulated to our country. This is an election that has great stakes at the world level and we need to unify as a world, not just a nation. I believe there is truth in Carl Jung's "collective unconsciousness", and human connectedness that can be found in Buddhism, The Tao do Ching, Christianity, Judaism, and most forms of religious beliefs. At a metaphysical level, we as people create our outcomes as One. I believe that a man like Obama can inspire hope and bring our collective unconscious towards positive outcomes that can start to turn the tides on the scary problems I listed above. On the other hand, a collective unconsciousness that is filled with negativity, ego, and selfishness can lead to unimaginable outcome. I once heard Marianne Williamson talk about how Hitler didn't commit the atrocities on an entire race by himself - it took a large group of people driven by ego to make that happen. People may not have consciously supported Hitler, but they went with it because it preserved their own needs to preserve their ego centered needs to promote career and personal wealth. What the Bush administration has done to this world with his personal , unjustified war in Iraq, and his in your face refusal to address global warming, and his thirst for raping the planet for oil versus investing in alternative fuels is maddening. But what is scary is that this nation knew all of this before the last presidential election - and almost half of the nation voted for him anyway! Thats the type of thinking that makes me begin to lose hope - and I don't want to lose hope. I love this country. I've loved my life that its given me. I can only hope for the same for my children.
When I think of great leaders or the world - JFK, FDR, Ghandi, The Dalai Lama - I think, if they had to vote in this election, who would they vote for? They would choose the person who could most inspire the world towards compassion, peace, and a future for all children - someone who was a leader of people. This is not McCain - not close. This is not Sarah Palin. Palin's track record in her 2 years as Governor of Alaska
is earily similar to the personal friend promoting (high school buddy
real estate agent becomes Secretary of Agriculture), secrecy driven,
lack of care for the future of the planet (denies affects of Global
Warming, tries to take Polar Bears off endangered species list) as
George Bush.
Obama gives me hope that he cares about more than protecting his own money and getting richer. He cares about our children, you, me, the world. Barack Obama as president of the United States will be a leader of the people. He can bring back trust to our government, and compassion towards all of the people of the world. Please, lets do this together, with Obama leading our way.
